How to Prepare for government exams after 12th
How to prepare for Government exams
after 12th.
For many of us in India getting higher
education after 12th, still proves to be difficult. Even many
meritorious students face this roadblock at a very crucial stage/age. Reasons
are many, financial problems, family problems and for many, it is as simple (or
as complicated) as being a girl.but still there remain many
options/opportunities for those who are willing to try hard.
One of many of these options is preparing
for Government Exams, conducted for recruitment in many Central and State government
departments.
Preparing for these exams is challenging,
that is a known fact. But half the battle can be won, if we take proper
guidance and start preparing, well before time.
Here is a brief introduction about how can we get started.
The first step.
Taking first step is exciting challenging
and also difficult for many……
Basically in the most of these examinations,
Four subjects are included in syllabus, Maths, General knowledge, English, and
Reasoning. (Sometimes depending upon the kind of examination, subjects like
local language of state, Hindi, Economics Computer awareness, Agriculture also
come up)
We should start our preparation from basics,
i.e. by introducing ourselves again to the school textbooks.
If your medium is English or Hindi, NCERT
Textbooks are a great source, if not, you can also make use of any state boards
textbooks. For NCERT books Epathshala App is very useful. Many state boards
also have their apps where we can access Etextbooks.
We don’t have to cram entire textbooks for
this purpose. Only a serious Go-through approach is recommended, to
refresh/revise the subjects we already have been learning since years.
PREPARATION OF ENGLISH SUBJECT.
There are three kind of students, those who
are very proficient in English language, those who are at mediocre level, and
those who don’t do very well in English. Don’t worry even if you fall in second
or third category. Chances are still not so bleak if you work on improving it
consistently.
If you are too weak in English, you can
start by solving grammar books of school level, class by class. By understanding
it, from the very beginning, and in much simpler language can help a lot.
Exercises given in the books should also
be solved. Along with these, finding new words in newspaper can improve
vocabulary. But an even better way to improve vocabulary is to try to read the
stuff we really are interested in English. Be it Children story books,
magazines, comics, novels, or anything you are interested in, you can read
about it online. Level of vocabulary is bound to be skyrocketed in this way.
Because when we read what we are interested in, chances of getting more and
more words and retaining meaning of newly learned words increase. Also it helps
to write down these words and revise regularly.
If you are mediocre or proficient, you can
start by learning and solving standard books for competitive exams. Firstly
learn by heart the rules, vocabulary part. Then practice extensively. It can be
done both offline and online. There are many resources as listed below.
Books & Resources
·
The objective english by S.P
Bakshi. ( For grammar and vocabulary)
·
Word power made easy by Norman
Lewis. ( An exceptional book for vocabulary building)
·
Mirror of common errors by
Ashok Kumar Singh ( for learning to tackle grammatical errors and practice)
·
Kiran Publication's objective
English ( for practice)
MATHEMATICS
The only way to learn
mathematics is to do mathematics-Paul Halmos.
Most of students right
from the beginning start learning a lot of tricks. But this way they are unable
to solve many questions. Learning all the shortcuts, just isn’t worth it. The
right way is to learn the logic behind all the topics. And then we can start
using tricks. First of all we should clear our basics. Learning Tables Upto
25-30 and learning squares and cubes upto 30 helps a lot in quick calculations.
After that we can cover each topic, then practice it online/offline. There’s
lot of stuff online like video tutorials, questions to practice etc. we can
make use of.
Books
·
NCERT Textbooks ( if one is willing to start from the basics
·
SSC mathematics by Rakesh Yadav
( great book, if you get stuck somewhere, by using
the QR code on book you can access their app where each and every question is
explained in detail in the videos)
·
Quicker Maths by M. Tyra. ( For learning tricks, but shouldn’t be used in first stage of
preparation, only after clearing the basics and understanding the topics
thoroughly.
REASONING
Reasoning
is solving puzzles, challenging but exciting. According to the different
competitive examinations syllabus differs. The trick here remains the same.
Pick a topic, refer to online video tutorials or any book you are using.
Understand that topic thoroughly and then you can practice online/offline.
BOOKS
·
The verbal and non-verbal reasoning by R.S. Agarwal
·
Kiran’s practice workbook for reasoning
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
One
subject one always stays confused about, from where does it begin and end. It
consists of many topics related to science, history, geography, economics, polity,
current affairs. For current affairs following daily news, making notes revison
is important. Also there are many websites where we can take part in quizzes based
on current happenings. Basics of all other subjects can be learned using school
textbooks, then we can refer to some
concise book like lucent general knowledge where we get all the facts at a
single place. After this we can solve topicwise question ( using books like
Kiran’s objective general awareness).
